First up on the roster is a gender bending twist on William Shakespeare’s classic Othello. Shakespeare’s tragic tale of power and race relations will get feminist spin as the titular role switches genders opening the door for a powerful discussion about biphobia. Don’t miss this potent story of sex, lies, and handkerchiefs directed by Gadfly Co-Artistic Director, Cassandra Snow, and opening September 20th at the People’s Center Theater.
The second slot is filled by Precious Little by 13P playwright Madeline George. Brodie is a gifted linguist (no jokes please) who learns some shocking news about the baby she carries. When she is unable to find solace or comfort in her girlfriend, she finds it elsewhere. Namely, the elderly speaker of a dying language and a gorilla at the zoo. Directed by Gadfly Co-Artistic Director, Immanuel Elliott, Precious Little will premiere on the People’s Center Theater stage March 21.
Rounding out our fourth season, Gadfly will premiere our first annual one act geek festival. The Final Frontier Festival will feature four to six one act plays surrounding a sci-fi/fantasy theme. All with the signature queer and feminist sensibilities you’ve come to expect from Gadfly. So, step outside the wardrobe, set your phasers for awesome, and grab the next tauntaun, thestral, or Firefly class vessel to Nimbus Theater summer 2014. Sorry apparition is not allowed within grounds of Nimbus Theater and Gadfly is not responsible for the loss or destruction of magic rings.
So, there it is. Our 2013/2014 season in a nutshell. Queer enough for you?
Querulously yours,
Immanuel Elliott
