Gadfly Theatre Productions, a queer and feminist theatre company, is auditioning for local playwright Eli Effinger-Weintraub's Crown of the Holly Queen on September 12th. To audition, please e-mail a headshot and resume to email@example.com as well as what time you are available from 6-9 P.M. on September 12th. If we have too many auditions to fit on the 12th, the 14th will also be an option but as of now all auditions are September 12th.
Small stipend paid to all performers, exact amount TBD.
We all know that there have been queer people as long as there have been people. However, it is rare that we see ourselves reflected in the the myths and stories of deities and heroes of ancient cultures. We at Gadfly think it's time to change that. This year's Final Frontier Festival theme is Myths and Legends. If you've ever wondered about the male loves of Zeus, Apollo, and Poseidon, well so have we. Remember Boudica? How come we haven't seen her story on stage yet? Write it. Jonathan and David? Ruth and Naomi? Super queer. Let's hear their stories without all the straight washing. Gadfly is now taking submissions for our annual geeky one act festival and we want to hear your queered myths, your lesbian legends, and you trans inclusive creation stories.
To submit your fantastically reimagined, queered, or brand new mythological or legendary stories please email your scripts to firstname.lastname@example.org by midnight December 31, 2017. Please include a character breakdown and short synopsis along with your script. Scripts failing to meet the submission guidelines or scripts received after the deadline will not be considered.
As always trans and nonbinary playwrights, playwrights of color, and other marginalized women playwrights are especially encouraged to submit. We are particularly interested scripts based on myths and legends of non-Western and non-white cultures.
A final note: It should go without saying, but you'd be surprised. If you use racial, sexual, or gender slurs in you character breakdowns or synopsis your scripts will be disqualified without being read.
Gadfly Has An Open Submission Policy
You can submit scripts to Gadfly at any time for consideration in future seasons. Right now we are only interested in stories BY trans and non-binary people, queer POC, and queer female playwrights. We can not respond with a "no, sorry" to every play, and we do not provide feedback on scripts. We do read everything that fits the guidelines below. If we want to produce your work, we will reach out in plenty of time to get rights and other contract details squared away.
Be both queer and feminist in nature and content
Be full lenth (60 minutes or longer) plays. No one-acts or ten minute plays will be considered for mainstage work
Feature less than EIGHT actors (big casts with double-casting is fine) and have as few set/dress/tech requirements as possible
Be submitted in .pdf format to email@example.com Please include the title of the play in the subject line and a brief synopsis of the play in the body of the email
